Byron joined GSS in 1999 and became a shareholder in 2001. He is the leader of our Estate and Trust Service Team. Byron also serves as a management member of the firm’s tax practice. His areas of concentration include extensive experience in planning for wealth accumulation and preservation as well as taxation and accounting issues regarding estates and trusts.

Prior to joining GSS, Byron worked for another local firm in the Tampa Bay area. His experience includes planning for wealth accumulation and preservation, taxation and accounting issues regarding estates and trusts. He has developed extensive knowledge in charitable giving, and business succession planning for closely-held businesses. In addition, Byron has been actively involved in comprehensive income tax planning for individuals, S corporations, controlled groups and partnerships in retail, manufacturing, agricultural, and various service industries and client representation before the Internal Revenue Service. Since becoming a CPA, Byron has written articles for The Tax Advisor and taught numerous courses and seminars within his profession and for the general public in estate planning techniques, tax law changes, and unique planning opportunities.

Education

Byron is a 1981 graduate of the University of South Florida with a degree in accounting. He joined Gregory Sharer and Stuart in 1999.

Professional Affiliations

Byron is a member of the American and Florida Institutes of Certified Public Accountants and previously served on the tax committee of the West Coast Chapter of the FICPA. He is actively involved with the Tampa Bay Estate Planning Council serving as President and Suncoast Estate Planning Council.

Community and Civic Organizations Served

He is past chairperson of the American Red Cross Planned Giving Committee and currently involved with the Salvation Army (chairperson of the Planned Giving and Bequest and Endowment Committee, and Advisory Board Member), the Tampa Bay Research Institute (Chairperson of Planned Gifts), R’ Club, Pinellas Education Foundation and CASA. He has previously served on the University of South Florida Planned Giving Council and Tampa Hillsborough County Youth Council.
